Dr Nicholas Wyatt is an artist and researcher and a founder member of Cubitt, a public-funded artist-run gallery and studios in London, where he works and served as Secretary (1991-2015). Nicholas Wyatt graduated from Central St Martin’s School of Art London with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art (Painting) in 1984 and gained his PhD in Fine Art in 2015 at Loughborough University, with the completion of his doctoral thesis, The Christian Image and Contemporary British Painting: the communication of meaning and experience in religious paintings.
Nicholas Wyatt’s paintings, both abstract and figurative, explore how narratives of presence are communicated in painting with particular reference to the reception aesthetics of certain key examples of Baroque religious iconography.
He has exhibited work in public and commercial institutions in London, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy, including Arnolfini, Bristol; Museum Kunstpalast, Dusseldorf; Academia Italiana, London; Gallerie de Rijk, Netherlands, & Basilica Santa Anastasia Al Palatino, Rome. He has shown work with artists including: Peter Doig, Chris Ofili, Hurvin Anderson, Tacita Dean, Andrew Bick, Mariele Neudecker, Lisa Brice and Billy Childish.å
